Physicians around the world in both private practice and at our model treatment center on Grand Cayman Island now use the PST. Below are some of the PST applications that may be used in the United States and Europe:
Back and Sciatic Pain - Back pain refers to a large number of disorders of the upper and lower back, which may occur most commonly from abnormalities of the disk (i.e. herniation), bone (i.e. arthritis, spinal stenosis), soft tissue (i.e. myofascial pain syndrome) or nerve (i.e. sciatica). Back pain may be described as a localized pain symptom (i.e. low back spasm with aching) or traveling in nature if nerve irritation has occurred (i.e. sciatica in which shooting, burning and numbness are felt in the lower extremities. Back pain is an extremely common condition, but is difficult to treat:
• An estimated 31 million Americans have back pain at any given time.
• One half of all working Americans experience back symptoms at least once each year.
• One third of Americans over the age of 18 have experienced back pain in the last five years severe enough to seek professional help.
• Experts believe that 80% of Americans will experience a back problem at some point in their life.
PST has completed a controlled clinical trial demonstrating benefit
in the setting of chronic back pain.
Cervical Pain - Cervical pain consists of discomfort in the neck area. This pain can result from disorders of structures in the neck, which may include vertebrae, nerves and muscles. This pain can irradiate to superior extremities and cause changes in sensation and movements in proximal or distal areas of the extremities. Irritation of pain may also reach the occipital area (base of cranium/head) and trigger headaches.
Arthritic Pain - Arthritis is defined as the inflammation of one or more joints, resulting in pain, swelling, and limited movement.
Neuropathy - Nerve-related pain may be from a number of conditions
such as musculoskeletal disorders described above as well as difficult to treat causes including infectious diseases (poster-herpetic/shingles, HIV-related neuropathy), endocrine disorders (peripheral neuropathy), or in many cases from undetermined causes (idiopathic polyneuropathy)
Cancer-Related Pain - Cancer pain refers to any pain caused by the disease or treatment of the disease.
It is anticipated that future PST versions will have the potential to move beyond chronic pain applications and become an effective treatment for other chronic and acute medical conditions.
